Feeling Zen In These Strange Times

We are currently living in an unusual period where we are forced to work from home and stay indoors as much as possible. Some of you probably already work from home, but some are used to an office environment and find this transition hard to cope with. In addition, if you have a partner or children, coordinating everyone and utilising your time might be a challenge.

In this article, we will give you 5 steps that you can follow to make your home more Zen. This will benefit your concentration, feeling of comfort as well as relationship between cohabitants since everyone will feel more at ease and relaxed.

  1. Enhance room with natural smells

Scents can influence our behaviour, some can help to wake us up, some help to put us to sleep. A homemade linen spray, soy or beeswax candles are the best option. If you are more of essential oils person we recommend cinnamon – distinct mixture of sexy exoticness and cozy familiarity, lemongrass – cheerful, energetic scent, clary sage – thought to have antidepressant effects or lavender – anti-anxiety and immune-boosting.

2. Remove electronic disturbances

We understand if you need to work from your laptop, but emphasis here is on TV sets and cables. It is advisable to place it in a discrete area or hide it in a specially designed cupboard, and hide all wires that could distort the serene atmosphere.

3. Bring in greenery

Plants provide us oxygen and have soothing effect through green colors. However, avoid flowers that are high maintenance or strongly scented. Bonsai trees or terrariums are also a good choice, and terrariums can be a good DIY project if you have extra time on hand.

4. Eliminate clutter

Clutter prevents relaxation. Clear your room of as many items as possible and keep only the essentials, but feel free to add anything that brings comfort – old photos, blankets, pillows.Clear and tidy desks, tables and kitchen countertops on a daily basis so you can start every day fresh with clarity.

5. Use stylish storage

We know it is hard to completely declutter, but at least make an extra step to purchase stylish storage bags/bins/boxes. Keep office and cleaning supplies organized with pretty baskets and containers. Appropriate storage is the key to making your home organized and tidy.
